Why making 100% natural fiber socks is difficult

Occasionally, we have customers who suffer from chemical fiber allergies or are looking for socks that provide the least constriction.

They might say, "I saw some at a general store the other day~" but upon closer inspection of the labels, that often turns out not to be the case...

Making socks that are 100% cotton or 100% silk is very difficult...

They are quite rare.

This is because socks, which are shaped to enclose the foot, unlike bottoms or tops, rely heavily on fit for comfort.

Natural fibers like silk, wool, cotton, and linen do not stretch or shrink unless processed.

(By cleverly devising knitting methods such as plain knitting, it is possible to give some elasticity to the fabric.)

If socks slide down while you're wearing them, they can't be called comfortable.

When you're active during the day, you don't want them to feel bulky or have to constantly pull up slipping socks, do you?

Therefore, many socks have invisible "lining threads" made of nylon, polyester, or polyurethane woven in.

Elastic polyurethane, nylon to cover it, etc... By weaving these threads together, stretchy, well-fitting socks can be made.

In fact, it's good that these are there. They are an important part.

Occasionally, I see items from other companies advertised as "100% cotton except for the lining thread!", but that simply means that threads like polyester are actually included.

Even so, by devising different types of polyurethane, it's possible to make socks with less constriction.

For leg warmers and arm covers, where a strong fit isn't always necessary, Tamura Socks also makes many 100% silk products, but we hadn't attempted this with socks.

However, this time we received an OEM manufacturing request for completely lining-thread-free silk double socks, and Tamura Socks has decided to slightly change the shape and produce and sell them in one color only.

This is our "Oyashumi Socks".

These are loose-fitting double socks with minimal constriction.

But they are undoubtedly 100% silk on the inside and 100% cotton on the outside.

We especially recommend these socks for those who love wearing double socks to sleep.

They are also recommended for those who prioritize 100% natural materials.

Normally, you would fold back the opening and overlap it slightly with the silk, but with this product, the two layers are joined without overlapping, so the entire part that touches your skin is silk fabric.
